You own a digital camera that takes digital pictures so the
next logical step is to put your digital pictures into a
digital picture frame. There are several varieties of
digital picture frames available in the marketplace today,
each with a different design approach, from simple to the
ultimate. These pricey new gadgets certainly appeal to
those who want the latest in electronics for their upscale
home or office.

The type of digital picture frame that is geared towards
the average consumer for use in the home is the VistaFrame.
The VistaFrame~s size, dimensions and shape are
reminiscent of a simple plastic picture frame in a slanted
L-shape into which you slide a 4x6 or 5x7 photo. Of
course, the VistaFrame is a sophisticated little device
with many more features than a stationary piece of plastic,
but the overall look of the VistFrame is similar to a
traditional desktop picture frame. The viewing area is a
6.8 inch LCD flat screen display surrounded by a silver
metallic flat and sleek framing. The digital frame accepts
four types of memory cards that contain digital pictures or
up to eight pictures can be saved in the frame~s own
memory. The VistaFrame~s screen comes to life when the
motion detector is activated, a new memory card is
inserted, or the start button is pressed. Control buttons
are used to orient each picture so it can appear properly
within the frame. You can show just one picture or create
a slide show that runs continuously. This little device
retails for $250.

Are you looking for a digital picture frame that's so
compact that it can fit into your briefcase? The Digital
Picture Frame Photo Viewer shows images from its built-in
3.5-inch LCD screen. You can see your images just like in
the VistaFrame - singularly or continuously at a preset
speed in a slide show. Digital Picture Frame Photo Viewer
can reads up to three types of memory cards and orients each
picture. To view your photos from the TV, this digital
picture frame can be plugged into the TV. The snag in this
digital picture frame is its software interface; loading
your pictures into it is a little cumbersome. You can
purchase the Digital Picture Frame Photo Viewer at a retail
cost of $130.

The Bigframe claims to be the thinnest on the market. At
less than 2 inches from front to back, the frame size is
19-inch LCD screen and its edge colors comes in silver,
black or gold. It hangs well on the wall due to its sleek
design. Both digital pictures and Mpeg Movie playback is
displayable. Retail cost for this digital picture frame, at
full size and the feature package, is $800.

This is just a sampling of the digital picture frames
available in the marketplace today. More exotic models
look more like a traditional artistic frame and come with
additional features as prices move into the thousands of
dollars. Over the next few years, expect to see digital
picture frames hanging in all kinds of public places to
entertain and inform the public as they pass by.
